Epic mountain views meet fast-flowing singletrack
Overview
The Three Sisters Skyline 50K is a trail runner’s dream—a rugged and beautiful ultra that immerses you in the heart of the Oregon Cascades. Starting with a long climb through ponderosa pines, you’ll crest near the Three Sisters Wilderness, where the jagged volcanic peaks dominate the skyline. From there, the course winds through alpine meadows, regrowth from the 2012 fire, and streams that sparkle under the big mountain backdrop.
This race balances effort and reward. With 3,700ft of climbing and 4,700ft of descent, it’s demanding but incredibly runnable, making for fast times and unforgettable experiences. Add in three well-stocked aid stations, incredible community support, and a post-race celebration in Sisters, and you’ve got a 50K worth every step.
Course
The 50K course opens with 9.7 miles of steady climbing, gaining about 2,300ft before reaching the first aid station just outside the Three Sisters Wilderness. From there, you’ll traverse a mix of meadows, forest, and flowy singletrack before descending hard toward the finish line in Sisters. With 95% of the course on singletrack, runners can expect both technical sections and smooth cruising terrain.

Founded in 2017 by longtime mountain runner and nurse Trevor Hostetler, Alpine Running was born from a deep passion for wild places and the transformative power of endurance running. Since then, it has grown into a close-knit community of runners who value adventure, camaraderie, and purposeful connection to the trails.
At its core, Alpine Running embodies a low-key yet high-quality ethos. Events are marked by personal touches, from meticulously flagged courses to thoughtful safety planning and warm, volunteer-powered aid stations. Whether you’re pushing your limits in a mountain ultra or enjoying the views on a shorter course, every Alpine race is designed to challenge and uplift.
From the Elkhorn Crest 50 to other remote alpine races, Alpine Running events are as much about self-discovery as they are about competition. If you're seeking meaningful mountain miles with an authentic trail family, Alpine Running will welcome you with open arms and wild terrain.
