Run the Mountains, Embrace the Sea

Overview

This is a true Pacific-Northwest winter classic: four 25-mile loops through moss-covered rainforest, past mirror-smooth lakes, and up the 2,410 ft summit of Mount Constitution, twice by day and twice by headlamp:

Charge beneath moss-draped firs while sea mist drifts in from Puget Sound and a wood-fired pizza party waits back at camp. Orcas Island 100M blends big-mountain vert with all-weekend camaraderie. Climb 26,000ft over four punishing 25-mile loops, tag the stone tower atop Mount Constitution for extra bragging rights, and share sunrise views with new friends around every aid station fire. Volunteers learn your name, pacers join after mile 25, and Sunday’s awards feel like a family reunion; hoodie, buckle, happy tears included.

The 25-mile loop leaves Camp Moran and circles sparkling Cascade Lake before climbing steep switchbacks to Mount Constitution’s 2,400ft summit. Rugged singletrack rolls through old-growth cedar, fern-lined ridges, and mossy rock outcrops with sweeping views of the Salish Sea, Olympic peaks, and snow-capped Mount Baker. Slick roots, leaf-strewn descents, and possible snow flurries keep effort honest. Each lap ends back at camp for pizza, cheers, and a check-in with your crew.

100M runners complete four identical loops with optional Tower Club stair climb inside the summit stone tower on every lap.

Key Highlights

  • Single-track almost start-to-finish: root-latticed switchbacks, slick granite, and fast lake-shore cruises

  • Expect fog, rain, or snow, plus optional Tower-Club detour (53-ft stone tower climb) each lap
