An epic day of running, community, and celebration in Whistler

Overview

The Whistler 50 Relay & Ultra is more than just a race, it is a full weekend of running, cheering, and celebrating in one of the most beautiful mountain towns in North America. Runners take on either the solo 50K or gather their friends for a team relay covering 50 miles of trails, with the event hub set against Whistler’s iconic alpine backdrop.

What makes this race special is its spirit. Solo runners get the chance to complete an approachable looped ultra course, while relay teams of four or eight keep the energy high all day long. Every runner is never far from the festival-style start and finish area, making this a race where support crews, friends, and families get to be part of the action. Post-race festivities cap off the experience with music, food, and a vibrant Whistler community atmosphere.

About BC Athletics

BC Athletics

The Vancouver Island Race Series is a premier collection of certified road races held annually across Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Operated in partnership with BC Athletics, the series offers runners of all ages and abilities the chance to compete on professionally measured courses while enjoying the camaraderie and energy of one of Canada’s most vibrant running communities.

What sets the Vancouver Island Race Series apart is its commitment to precision and excellence. Every course is certified by BC Athletics, Athletics Canada, and World Athletics B-level course measurers, ensuring accurate distances and the potential for setting official provincial, national, or even world records. The certification process is no small feat, courses are measured multiple times using a calibrated Jones Counter on a temperature-adjusted steel tape–measured bike, often in the quiet hours of the night to avoid traffic. This meticulous attention to detail reflects the series’ deep respect for the sport and its athletes.

From January to May, the Vancouver Island Race Series offers a diverse lineup of events that reflect the beauty, grit, and community spirit of Vancouver Island’s road running scene. Whether you're looking to set a personal best on a certified course or simply enjoy the island’s race-day energy, this series delivers professionalism, passion, and precision at every mile.
