Test yourself on Misery Ridge
Overview
The Run the Rock 50K is not just a race — it is an Oregon trail epic. This loop takes you across nearly every trail in Smith Rock State Park and beyond into the wide-open expanse of the Crooked River National Grasslands. From steep climbs to fast descents, from sweeping Cascade Range views to close encounters with the iconic Monkey Face, this course has it all.
Runners climb Misery Ridge, soar around Gray Butte, and cover rugged terrain that mixes singletrack with forest service roads. With 5,000ft of climbing and four fully stocked aid stations, this course will test your endurance, reward your grit, and leave you with memories carved in stone.
Course
Run the Rock offers two courses. The 50K is a loop that covers nearly every trail in Smith Rock State Park, then loops around Gray Butte in the Crooked River National Grasslands. Runners climb Misery Ridge, pass directly below Monkey Face, and take on 5,000ft of gain. The half marathon loops through Smith Rock State Park with one major climb and 2,500ft of elevation gain, rewarding runners with wide-open views of the Cascade Range and the cliffs of Smith Rock.
