Dash across islands at Deception Pass

Overview

The Kids 1K Fun Run is a big adventure in a small package! Young runners will dash through a special loop that winds past the quiet Cranberry Lake Campground (closed for the season, so they’ll have it all to themselves), then cruise along the sandy stretch of North Beach before making a champion’s finish on the same course as the 25k and 50k racers. It’s the perfect chance for kids to feel like part of the big race day fun!

Race Policies

All runners must carry a visible bib and obey aid-station cutoffs. Early start option ONLY for those expecting 7+ hours. This is a safety rule. No outside aid except at aid stations (crew allowed only at designated spots).

Cutoff Enforcement

  • Miss a cutoff = ride back to finish

  • Refusing cutoffs = potential future ban

Dog Policy

Well-behaved dogs on a leash are welcome on course, at the Start & Finish and at aid stations so long as owners clean up and keep pets clear of tables and runners.

Kid & Youth Policy

Kids can toe the line in the free 1K Fun Run or cheer from the sidelines.

Charity & Beneficiary

A portion of each entry supports Washington State Parks and local trail-maintenance nonprofits through Rainshadow’s For The Trails grant program.

Land Acknowledgement

The race takes place on the traditional territories of the Coast Salish peoples, including the Samish and Swinomish tribes, who have stewarded these lands and waters since time immemorial.

About Rainshadow Running

Rainshadow Running

Rainshadow Running is known for hosting some of the most scenic, challenging, and well-loved trail races in the Pacific Northwest. Since 2006, we've brought runners together on rugged mountain trails, coastal bluffs, and remote desert ridges, places that inspire awe and demand grit.

Our races are more than just miles; they’re celebrations of community, nature, and the wild beauty of the land. Whether you're chasing a PR or just here for the post-race party with wood-fired pizza and bluegrass music, you're part of the Rainshadow family.
