Hamster Endurance Runs

How many loops can you Hamster?

Overview

The Hamster Endurance Runs are equal parts challenge, community, and joyful chaos. Since 2013, this race has been the go-to event for runners who love testing their endurance on a fun and loopy course. The magic of Hamster isn’t just about the miles—it’s about the energy at Lake Padden, the quirky traditions (yes, peanut butter and pickle wraps), and the celebration that happens every time a runner crosses the start line for another lap.

Whether you’re in for 6 hours or braving the full 32, you’ll discover that Hamster is as much about the journey as the finish. With a lively crew of runners, volunteers, and supporters cheering you on, this is a race where big dreams meet small loops in the best way possible.

Course

Elevation Gain150ft
Elevation Loss150ft
Max Altitude300ft
Cutoff Time32HR

The course is a 2.6M loop that circles scenic Lake Padden on a well-marked trail. Surrounded by towering trees and lake views, runners will find themselves fully immersed in a natural, peaceful setting. At night, glow lights guide the way while headlamps light up the forest.

The trail surface is compact dirt and crushed gravel, making it smooth and nontechnical with only minimal elevation change. Each loop includes roughly 150ft of gain, and while that might not seem like much, it adds up quickly as the hours roll on. This is a course that challenges your mental grit as much as your legs, rewarding persistence with milestone after milestone.

About Walla Trails

Walla Trails

Founded by ultrarunner and race director Gretchen Walla, Walla Trails & Community is built on the belief that trail running is about more than just miles—it’s about belonging, giving back, and celebrating the joy of moving through the Pacific Northwest’s wild places together.

After years of racing ultras herself and working with respected organizations like Rainshadow Running and Northwest Trail Runs, Gretchen launched her own company in 2019. With 17 years of nonprofit experience behind her, she’s woven community, inclusivity, and generosity into every event. From offering welcoming spaces for new runners to creating competitive incentives for seasoned athletes, each race is designed with intention.

Walla Trails & Community also reflects Gretchen’s commitment to equity and access on the trails. Events like the Walla Walla 6 Hour, Twilight 12 Hour, Hamster Endurance Runs, and The Golden 6 Hour offer something for everyone—whether you’re chasing your first buckle, looking for a fun weekend getaway, or testing your endurance overnight under the stars.

Even in challenging times, Walla Trails & Community has thrived thanks to strong local partnerships, including Pacific Multisports, who helped Gretchen pivot to virtual and hybrid races when needed. The result: a race organization that’s as much about building lasting connections as it is about finish lines.

Enjoy the journey—come run with Walla Trails & Community.
