Cocodona 250

250MMonday, May 4, 2026Arizona

A seven-town, red rock to pine forest odyssey across Arizona that will rewrite what you think is possible

Overview

Cocodona 250 is a point to point journey from the Sonoran Desert to the high pines of Flagstaff, linking historic main streets, legendary singletrack, and big-sky vistas into one continuous 250-plus mile adventure. You will climb out of saguaro country, crest mountain ridges, roll through wine country and red rock cathedrals, and finish beneath the San Francisco Peaks with a crowd that knows exactly what you just did.

This is a race for explorers. Expect long, quiet miles under sunrise pastels, rowdy energy in mountain towns like Crown King and Jerome, and a finish line scene in downtown Flagstaff that hits you right in the heart. Crews, volunteers, and spectators are part of the magic. If you have been looking for a life-marker run, this is it.

Elevation Loss35,674 ft
Max Altitude9,241 ft
Cutoff Time125HR

From Deep Canyon Ranch in Black Canyon City, the route follows the Black Canyon National Recreation Trail before climbing into the Bradshaw Mountains toward Crown King. It threads jeep tracks and high-country forest roads into Prescott’s Prescott Circle Trail, then crosses Fain Ranch toward the Black Hills and up and over Mingus Mountain. After a dramatic descent through the mining town of Jerome to Clarkdale and the Verde Valley, the course turns north to Sedona’s sculpted red rock trails and into the Coconino National Forest. The final act joins segments of the Arizona Trail and the Flagstaff Loop Trail, topping out near Mount Elden before dropping to Heritage Square in downtown Flagstaff.

Expect desert heat early, rocky tread and kitty-litter decomposed granite, sustained climbs and long runnable descents, wind exposure on ridgelines, cool nights at higher altitude, and world-class scenery throughout. Highlights include sunrise on the Black Canyon Trail, the climb to Crown King, the switchbacks above Jerome, cathedral-view miles in Sedona, and a triumphant roll through Flagstaff’s historic core.

Flagstaff Pulliam Airport serves the finish city and is convenient for crews and finish logistics. Nearby cities for lodging and resupply include Phoenix, Black Canyon City, Prescott, Cottonwood and Sedona, and Flagstaff.

Parking

Follow race-day signage and volunteer direction at all access points. Some aid stations have limited capacity and will restrict crew vehicles. Downtown Flagstaff finish parking uses public lots and street parking with time limits. Carpooling is strongly encouraged for all crewed locations.

  • TBD for any parking or venue-specific permits along the route. Most crewed locations use public or forest access areas with race-day instructions.

Lodging

Lodging is available across the route in Black Canyon City, Crown King, Prescott, Cottonwood and Clarkdale, Sedona, and Flagstaff. Camping options may exist near select aid stations where permitted by land managers and will be noted in the runner guide.

Start @ Black Canyon | Finish @ Flagstaff, arizona

Requirements

Runners must carry adequate hydration and calories between stations, follow course markings, check in and out at every aid station, and adhere to all land agency rules. Cutoffs are enforced throughout the event and the overall 125 hour limit applies to every participant.

Qualifying Races

There are no formal qualifier races required. Cocodona strongly recommends prior ultradistance experience, demonstrated self-sufficiency on remote trails, and recent completion of long mountain efforts.

Mandatory Gear

A GPS-enabled tracking device is mandatory and issued by the race. Overnight and remote segments require prudent safety planning including lights and layers. Final mandatory gear notes will be listed in the runner guide.

Policies

Charity & Beneficiary

Cocodona supports community and access initiatives through Charity Bib entries and scholarship programs such as the Kahtoola Scholarship. Charity Bibs raise funds for partner nonprofits announced each season. Details and beneficiaries are listed on the event page and Charity Bib Program page.

Land Acknowledgement

This route crosses the ancestral lands of Indigenous peoples including the Hohokam, Yavapai, Hopi, Western Apache, and Diné among others. We honor the original stewards of these deserts, canyons, and mountain forests. We encourage every participant to learn about the people and history of the places they pass through, to travel with humility and care, and to give back to organizations that protect access and cultural heritage.
